Tathra Cottage

Tathra Cottage The Tathra Cottage property was once dairy country but since the cows have gone and the privet, lantana and blackberry have been cleared, the original rainforest is regenerating. The cottage is now surrounded by both native and exotic trees and shrubs with a very active bird population.

The dam below the cottage is home to hundreds of frogs, dozens of wild ducks which fly in at dawn, and a resident tortoise which floats in the middle of the water on the hottest of days.

Echindnas bumble about during the day and at night wombats explore around the house, invariably leaving their spoor on the top of rocks or logs.

The design of Tathra Cottage took its inspiration from Arthur Boyd’s Music Room at Bundanon on the Shoalhaven, 40 minutes south through Cambewarra. The vertical timber lining boards and high ceilings create a sense of space, reinforced by the views to the outside. French doors open to the cool verandahs in summer and a wood fire keeps things warm in winter.

The cottage is fully self contained, comfortably furnished and complemented with fine linen and towels. The setting is very private and because the property is up the end of a closed valley, there is no traffic. One falls asleep listening to the croaking of frogs and wakes to the calls of the birds.
