A Day at Currarong
Mar 25th, 2007 by admin
Hi Again to Everybody
This week I thought I would grab some shots of Currarong and also mention Point Perpindicular Lighthouse at Jervis Bay. Point Perpindicular Lighthouse which was built in 1899 to replace the Cape St George Lighthouse can be reached via Nowra and is at the end of the Beecroft Peninsula in the Jervis Bay Military Reserve. When coming towards Currarong on Currarong Road you will see a turn off to the right to Point Perpindicular Lighthouse. Turn right, you will be required to stop at the boom gates for a security check. The officer there will just take your registration number and you will need to tell him where you are going. This is so they can locate people if there is a need to evacuate the area. You will then drive approximately 10 kilometres until you reach the car park at Point Perpindicular Lighthouse. From the carpark it is an easy 200 mtr walk where you will find the lighthouse behind a fenced area. You will enter through a gate. Here you will enjoy the most spectacular views 75 mtrs above sea level and you will be able to see across to Bowen Island in Jervis Bay. The day I was there is was a little hazy, but on a clear day it is a marvellous view and if you are lucky you can even do a little whale watching. If you would like to know more about the history of Point Perpindicular Lighthouse just click on the following title and you will find a wealth of information including the history of Cape St George Lighthouse.

While in Currarong for the day I visited a couple more of the lovely spots to be enjoyed including Abrahams Bosoms Beach, The Rock Pools and Dolphin Reserve. I have included a gallery of photos of each spot. What a beautiful part of the world it is at Currarong!
