Kerry’s Weekend
Mar 18th, 2007 by admin
Hi Everybody,
I thought it might be a great idea to share my weekends with you. I usually spend my weekends out and about in the Shoalhaven. I like to experience something new every week if possible. There is so much to see and do here.
This weeks feature is
Steamers Beach
Getting to Steamers Beach, which is located in Booderee National Park takes a little explaining. You will need to turn on to Wreck Bay road from Jervis Bay road and then left into Stoney Creek Road. After that just follow the signs and you will arrive at the Steamers Beach carpark. From the carpark there is a walking track to Steamers Beach. It is about 2 kilometres and will take you through a beautiful landscape of eucalypt and tea-trees. You will arrive at the top of Steamers Beach, from here you will need to climb down a very long and steep set of steps to the beach. I think we counted about 360 steps! But believe me … it’s worth it!
They say Steamers Beach is inhabited by the endangered Fur Seal, but I wasn’t fortunate enough to see any, none the less I was spoilt by the absolutely gorgeous surroundings. The sky was so blue on my visit there and as it met the beautiful blue sea, it was a sight to behold, which I can only describe as perfect. The beach is bordered by steep sand dunes which are thought to have been the result of mega-tsunami many thousands of years ago. Steamers Beach is also a popular and well visited fishing and diving spot.
Have a look below at the photo gallery of some shots I took while there. There are some great shots of a cave we found by climbing up over a hill only to find out later I could have walked around the rocks to get there. Sometimes you just have to go off the beaten track to be ever so delighted with what you find.
If you decide to give this one a go. Make sure you take plenty of water and supplies as there are no amenities or drinking water on Steamers Beach.
